The next time I participate in a plein aire event, I'd love to be able to work in both watercolor and gouache. Today, I decided to bring gouache into the mix of my daily practice.
It reminded me a bit of acrylic but had the flexibility of watercolor when it was very diluted with water. I really enjoyed the immediate, vibrant colors and the ability to layer colors. Wow! I blocked in the values with very diluted gouache, then started laying color in with it less diluted. Color mixing is definitely much different than watercolor. I found that I used white a lot and had to add in very little color to achieve the look I was after. I'm excited to practice and learn more about this wonderful medium!
